25Jun13 - Pixiu

The Pixiu (or PiYao) is a Chinese mythical hybrid creature considered to be an auspicious creature that possessed mystical powers capable of drawing wealth luck from all directions. He is believed to be the ninth offspring of the Celestial Dragon King and has a big appetite for gold and silver which he brings to his master. He is perceived to be a strong and fierce creature who protects his master from any bad luck or illnesses.
A pair of colorful liuli glass pixiu

They are best shown sitting on chinese coins to signify your fortune being protected, thus making it a wealth enhancer as well. Many people prefer using the Pi Yao over Chi Lin because the Pi Yao does not have an anus and only eats but does not dispose. It has a big and infinite appetite. For the naturally greedy businessmen and merchants or housewives out there, if you intend to only have lots of money luck coming in and ensure the money never be spent, the Pi Yao is what you are looking for. The Pi Yao is also known to be very obedient to their owners as they are loyal in nature.

Brass and metal pixiu is quite common too, for safeguard of the house

Pixiu should be placed lower than the eye level of the tallest family member as it is not considered as a deity. You can placed it facing the front door or windows for good health and wealth. To use it as a feng shui cure, have it directly facing the ailment.

They are not suitable to be placed in bedrooms, kitchen and toilet.

19Jun13 - Return of the Haze

The haze from our neighboring country is back again and this time is it getting more serious.
Till tonight, the psi level is 290, which is almost hazardous (already very hazardous I feel)
PSI reading and the health effects

It is generally advised to stay indoor and in air-conditioned room, prevent labor work and exercise. But not all of us are that lucky, for those who still have to go out to work and make
a living, you have to take extra care by wearing a mask, drinking more water and avoid smoking ( its already so smoky!)

A little reminder to remind us to stop and take a rest

If you experience any breathing difficulty or short of breath, headache, sore throat or itchy eyes,
you should consult a doctor. Drink more water and cooling drinks like barley, honey, chrysanthemum and american ginseng.

Take care and  Bo-bi!

04Jun13 - Pearls

Pearls symbolize purity of heart, mind, faith and innocence. They remind us to carry ourselves through life with dignity.
These oldest known gems were once considered the most valuable of gems.
Pearls stimulate spiritual transformation, wisdom, integrity and pure love. They bring out the best qualities that rest within our souls.

How to grade pearls
-Glossiness
A - particularly bright, sharp and uniform. Skin like a mirror, the reflection is very clear
B - bright and uniform, clear reflection.
 C - bright, moderate reflection
-Markings
A - Smooth surface, no sign of blemish
B - Small pinholes-like blemish, only visible on close inspection
C - Visible blemish and deflects
-Shapes(Roundness)
A1 - Difference between height and width is less than 1% (salt water pearls)
       - Difference between height and width is less than 3% (fresh water pearls)

B - Over shapes, teardrop shapes or rice shapes
   C - irregular shapes

Sea water pearls are usually more valuable and rare than fresh water ones

How to differential real and fake pearls
Fake pearls can be made to look like more expensive pearls, but they are made up of glass, ceramic, shell or plastic. This bead or fragment is then coated with a varnish or some other material that simulates a pearl-like luster and false iridescence. They are manufactured by humans to fool the human eye.

-Drill Holes
You should be able the layered interior. Fake pearls may have damages around the holes and different interior colors. Generally the holes on the pearls should be small as pearls are sold by weights.

-By Feel
Real pearls feel cool to the touch while fake ones feel too smooth and greased.

Cultivated pearls are much affordable and common.

-Rubbing
By rubbing real pearls against the glass, it should feel a bit of friction and powdery residue will appear (over-doing will damage the pearl surface!)
By rubbing real pearls against each other will feel similar. Fake pearls will be smooth and no friction.

-Microscopic view
Under microscopic view, real pearls have rough surface, similar to eggs, while fake pearls will be smooth and perfect

-Overall
Real pearls are multi-colored, and no two pearls are the same in shape and color. Fake ones
will look all the same with no variations.

Pearls are the world’s only organic gemstone, and therefore, tend to be quite delicate. Proper care of your pearl jewelry is essential to ensure your investment will last a lifetime. Personal care products, such as perfume or hairspray, can severely damage the luster and beauty of a pearl.
